Lagos State Government has an announced that everything is set for restructuring of a popular market in Ojo Local Government Area of Lagos State as the government gives the marketers and traders using the market an ultimatum of two weeks to vacate the market and go elsewhere because they are planning of total demolition of the market.
The Commander of Police of Rapid Response Squad, CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi spoke on the reasons why government want the tractors to start working on the demolition of the market as soon as possible.
In one publications, CSP Egbeyemi said both Rapid Response Squad and Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit (Taskforce), confirmed it that some evil people are using the market as a warehouse where they keep various kinds of weapons for fighting and also as a hideout for criminals. He said another reason is that government intends to restructure the market to a modern standard markets where there wouldn’t be any means of keeping illegal things again.
Just last week, the Lagos State Police discovered some local guns hiding in the market while the drugs dealers arrested confessed that the market has become a popular place for drugs trading where drug is being sent to different parts of the country. This is the reason why government will not waste time in dissolving the evil activities going on in the market.
For this reason, we have met and discussed with those market users that are concerned and they have been given ultimatum of two weeks to leave the market.
CSP Egbeyemi furthermore said that restructuring the market will eradicate the dirtiness acts in some parts of the market.
He then warned people not to think that the government intention of restructuring is anyway a kind of religion favourism or tribalism but as a must for peace and comfortability of the people.
